MFA represents the total forest community by serving as an advocate for forest landowners, forestry professionals, and the forest industry. MFA provides information for individuals and groups, and presents testimony to local and state officials and the legislature on issues relating to forests and forestry. MFA follows state and regional issues and maintains a listserve to alert members on issues of concern, and a "Bills to Watch" page on our Website.
MFA builds effective partnerships by maintaining close liaisons with appropriate state agencies, businesses, and conservation groups.
MFA representatives participate in meetings, committees, task forces and commissions to make sure that forest landowner, professional forester, and forest industry perspectives are heard and understood
MFA works to increase incentives and eliminate disincentives for forest landowners to keep their land in forest.
MFA works to assure that landowners have the right to choose forest management strategies that will meet their own objectives, including the sale of forest product
MFA works to streamline the forest harvesting permitting process.
MFA offers professional development through its Master Logger Program and Annual Meeting programs.
MFA supports lifelong learning. MFA's "Maryland Forests Forever Interactive CD ROM" teaches students of all ages about forests, forestry and the forest products industry of Maryland.
MFA supports financially and participates in educational programs for youth, including Project Learning Tree (PLT), 4-H, and the Envirothon.
MFA is a primary sponsor of the Thomas O Tyler Excellence in Forestry Memorial Scholarship for a forestry student at Allegany College of Maryland
