MFA Annual Meeting to Explore Stewardship and Legacy

GRANTSVILLE, MD. June 15, 2006

The Maryland Forests Association announces that its 2006 Annual Meeting will be held on November 3 and 4, at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Maryland. This year's theme will be Inheritance to Legacy, Creating a Heritage of Stewardship.

Speakers throughout the meeting will address issues that occur throughout the lifecycle of forestland ownership, from "You've Got Land - Now What?" (why you need a forest management plan) to "MALPF, FCMA, CREP, SIP, Rural Legacy - What does it all mean?" (understanding landowner assistance and conservation programs). The meeting will finish with "Leaving a Living Legacy" (the need for long term planning…what will your legacy be?).

The meeting's keynote speakers will be David Sutherland, Chairman of the Governor's Commission on Sustainable Forestry (Friday evening) and Senator David Brinkley, member of the Maryland State Senate (Saturday lunch).

Session speakers will be an array of experts on the topics of forest management, increasing the value of forestland, farm and forest landowner assistance, estate planning (including attorneys and a financial planner) and the State Forester of Maryland, Steve Koehn.

In addition to the educational opportunities for attendees, opportunities still exist for exhibitors and sponsors.
